Insignificant me

Subtle sunlight peaked through the lush green mountains as I rocked in the narrow boat floating in the middle of Naini lake. Sunlight highlighted the crests of the gentle waves. The infamous Naini lake was surrounded by hills and had nine corners. The water appeared blue green due to algae.  Lockdown had reduced the influx of tourists this year. The level of the water was much greater than last time.  There was a strange peace about the place. It was as if there was a sense of  commanding presence of the nature surrounding me. The sheer size of the mountains was humbling.  If I fell from the unstable boat, the depth of the lake was enough to drown me. If I quietly slip in the water, nothing would happen. Nobody would notice as my oxygen would dissipate and lungs fill with water. Nothing substantial would happen. Nothing.  The town had been there for centuries and the lake for more. They had existed before me and they would continue to exist after me....

Do we really know our loved ones?

My emotional health took a blow. I realised I never really knew a close family member. Families are complicated, that's for sure. But I never realized that I had been living with a strong narcissist. At first I thought I was wrong, immaturely accusing someone in the flow. But I tried to detangle the mess. The hunger for approval and appreciation, general lack of empathy for others  feeling, blaming loved ones for the shortcomings in life , not taking responsibility and having a grandiose image of oneself. All these signs I had witnessed and accepted, all the while not acknowledging the weird behaviour.    It’s funny how we accept those things which we have always seen. But when our world expands and our outlook on life changes, we begin questioning different aspects of our life. And then we begin to change. Both ourselves and our surroundings. When we take lead of our lives, accept some things and start letting go, we grow. So keep questioning, keep learning and las...

How to move on?

People do the same things but expect different outcomes. Literally, this happens, I have seen people doing this. People whine about how their lives are and say that they are doing everything they can but in most cases people doing the exact same thing with slightly different motives and expect totally different outcomes. And when they don't get what they wanted, they get frustrated or depressed. Well, everybody acts differently. This cycle is repeated over and over in their lives. The motivation, the hard work, the frustration ; this cycle is not good for a person's emotional mental balance.                The reason behind this is that expectations arise motivation in us that drives us to accomplish tasks. That is good only if the expectations are real and practical. False expectations lead us to our much hyped results which in reality do not resemble in any way to our expectations. This triggers a rebellion in our...

Is happiness important?

Everybody wants to be happy. The main motive behind the things we do is to be happy. Let's take an example, why do we work so hard to get a good job? So that we can earn money and have a decent life. Decent life means having the facilities that fulfill our needs and are convenient and convenience makes us feel good or shall we say gives us happiness. Another example is, what was the main reason behind all the modern inventions? To make life easier and entertaining. An easy life means less problems which gives a sense of joy or happiness.              But is happiness really important? Allow me to elaborate. When we are sad or depressed, we feel separate from everyone and feel as if nobody understands us. We feel lonely. We get to know our limits, our tolerance, ambitions, how we think even more clearly. It's like we've been living with this person the whole time but now somebody has put a mirror and we can see right through ...

Do we have choices?

Sometimes I wonder, Is life predetermined? If so, then do our choices really matter? Does free will exist?             So let's say that life is predetermined but that's no reason to say that we don't have choices. People depend on destiny but destiny depends on us. We have been given the ability to analyse the situation and choose what's best. Our choices give rise to action, our actions are powered by our motivation and motivation arises from within us. All this leads to destiny.                                   Life isn't always easy. Sometimes the paths we have choose are difficult, sometimes the path isn't even there, you have to make it. Destiny isn't like fate. It is the constant effort and sacrifice we make to move ahead and fulfill our desires. And always remember just b...

Don't let people get to you

Life is too short to waste it on people. In life, all of us have to face problems. That's inevitable. All the sorrow and trouble of this world is caused by unhappy people. Not only in the big global picture but also on the smallest personal level.                    Life is the most difficult exam. All of us face problems but they don't really matter. What matters is that how we face them. We stumble in our lives, then only we get to know our weaknesses and strengths. Once we get to know our weaknesses and turn them into our strength , nobody can ever defeat us. People do lie and cheat and some even say they love us when they don't. But we can't let their negativity destroy our positivity. We can't let them be the reason to stop living. But there are people who love us, we should find and keep them in our life forever.     ...

What is happiness ?

Everyone has a different perception of happiness, whatever their perception may be everyone believes that reaching our goal would make us happy. We think if we get what we want, we'll automatically be happy. Is this true? We work hard and put every amount of energy into achieving our goal. Once we get there, we assume we would live 'happily ever after'. So,is this what really happens? No. The excitement and joy may last for a certain amount of time. But after that, what do we do? We set a new goal and we run after it and when we reach there , we chase another. This chase never really stops ,huh ? So all the things that we missed to get there ,what for ? To do more running ?                     Is this really happiness or just another name given to the never-ending urge for more? This is human tendency to never be satisfied but want more when you already have enough. No matter how much we deny to have this urge , there's a little...
